Poker tables

Poker tables used to refer to the constructions at a casino where the dealer sat and dealt games of poker. Today, however, they can be found in game rooms across the country. Poker has transformed its image from gambling into some sort of sport, and while not everybody buys it, the move has legitimized the weekly guys’ poker game in a way that wouldn’t have been possible before.

Poker tables feature several things built into them that you won’t find on a regular table. The first distinct feature of most poker tables is the shape: they look somewhat like a kidney bean. They are an arc, with a spot on the inner curve for the dealer, and several spots around the outside for players.

The next thing you’ll notice about a poker table is that it has a built-in chip tray. In casinos, this tray is removable so that a table not in use doesn’t present a security hazard. At home, since you aren’t liable to exchange the chips for cash, this isn’t a necessary precaution. The table is usually covered in a type of felt, much like pool tables, unlike a pool table however, it contains marked off areas for bets, cards, and other aspects of an ongoing poker game.
